Tutorial

How to add your personal information

Step 1 - Go to the Researchers page.

The best way to this this is to open the Researchers page on a new tab or window, while keeping this one open so you can go from one to the other. Usually, you can open a link in a different tab or window by clicking on the link with the right button of your mouse, and choosing the "Open link in a new window" option.

Step 2 - Scroll all the way to the bottom

You will see a list of buttons that say Edit, History, Files, etc. All pages have these buttons, so be sure to do this on the Researchers page, not on this Tutorial page.

Step 3 - Click on the Edit button.

If someone somewhere in the world is already editing this page, you'll get a message saying who is editing. Usually people take about 10 minutes to do this. You can try again in a few minutes, or come back later.

If nobody is editing, you'll get access to the editing box, which will show up on the bottom of the current page. It will display three lines of formatting buttons, and a text box. In the text box, you'll see all the information that is in the page, but it won't have all the nice formatting, it will be just text.

Step 4 - Find or add your name.

There is a list with the names of everyone that has attended the ISTA 5 meeting, but in case your name is not there, just add another line. Here is an example of what you can do:

A simple format:

Inside this box is exactly what you type in:

Timaeus Critias
Position: Full Professor at the University of Atlantida
Areas of Research: Amoebae as biological controls in underwater farming

This is how it shows up:

Timaeus Critias
Position: Full Professor at the University of Atlantida
Areas of Research: Amoebae as biological controls in underwater farming

A fancier format:

This is what you type in:

Timaeus Critias [[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Doe | website]]]
Position: Full Professor at the [[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis | University of Atlantida]]]
Areas of Research: Amoebae as biological controls in underwater farming

This is what shows up:

Timaeus Critias website
Position: Full Professor at the University of Atlantida
Areas of Research: Amoebae as biological controls in underwater farming

IMPORTANT: An easy way to see if your formatting is going to work is to hit the PREVIEW button on the bottom of the page.

Step 5: Save your changes

Once you're done, hit save. This will close the editing box and submit your modifications! It is important that you do this so other people can edit their information.

Step 6: Optional inclusion of your e-mail

It is up to you whether you want to include your e-mail or not. People have all sorts of algorithms that search the web to get your e-mail, with many evil purposes. If you do want to include your e-mail, I suggest you use this tool that conceals your e-mail unless they click on it and successfully pass a captcha challenge. Algorithms usually can't pass this test, so your e-mail is safer. Follow instruction on the website to add this. Alternatively, if you're feeling brave, you can add your e-mail in a format such as:

critias.timaeus (at) atlantidauni (dot) com

Good luck editing!
